Every one says Sir, in the shops, "hi sir", "hello sir" endlessly. the local Filipino people have been extremely courteous and polite. They also seem to take extra care as I am a Foreigner. I am still trying to work out whether it because they are genuinely polite or whether its a left over of the colonialization. I am going with poilte for now.
I must admit I am a bit sick of all the staring as there are literally 3 europeans per 100 Filipinos here in Makati and Ayala Alabang. Its wierd to be completely in the Minority.
Some times I feel that although the veneer is genuine the actual service is not so good or untrained.
See my coming posts about stuff thats gone wrong.
So far even the taxi drivers have been polite and no-one has tried to cheat me although once or twice there has been no change. If you dont want to excessively tip - nake sure you have change....
I think my teenage kids have picked up on a few remarks and sneering from the odd pavement loiterer so thats a negative.
We have not walked around at night later than 8pm so far, but Makati where I am is quite decent as we only go shopping in the Malls.

Manila weather - its hot.
Ok, if you'te a foreigner going to Manila, you need to know its going to be hot.
The winter is from November to March and it hot. Its also very humid. We live for air conditioning.
You do not need a jacket, pullover or top. I have not worn more than a t-shirt or shirt 24/7.
Summer is from April to October. Its very hot.
Everyone seems to walk so slowly... compared to London everyone is literally walking at half the pace. I assume its to keep the heat off.
Got a few rashes due to the heat - been to the local doctors in the Maakti malls - am very impressed with the clinics so far. Service has been good. Although you are paying for it.
Almost every shop and mall in Makati is airconditioned. so there is plenty of escape from the heat.
The heat takes a bit of getting used to maties. Although for me, having grown up in a hot climate I approciate the heat and dont get frekaed out about sweat as its natural.
All the metered taxi's are airconditioned.
Type I: Metro Manila
